Window blinds are an inexpensive and attractive way to spruce up bare windows in your apartment units. For many years, corded styles were the blinds of choice, but safety concerns led manufacturers to make cordless blinds the new industry standard in 2019.
According to the Federal Register,* loose pull cords can pose a safety risk for small children. As a result, manufacturers have discontinued corded window blinds. This new industry-wide policy was a result of a collaboration between the Window Covering Manufacturers Association (WCMA) and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and also supports a voluntary safety standard approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
A 2017 study published in the journal Pediatrics showed that between 1990 and 2015, roughly 17,000 children under age 6 were treated in the emergency room for injuries related to corded blinds.†
Not only are cordless blinds safer for small children and pets, these stylish blinds bring a clean, modern, and attractive look to any size window while offering privacy and security to residents.
